SPRING SEW SAMPLER
With Connie Amaden-Crawford
We learned a lot and laughed a lot and thoughly enjoyed ourselves at the Spring Sew Sampler. Our featured speaker was Connie Amaden-Crawford, the 2009 ASG Hall of Fame inductee, a nationally recognized lecturer, fashion specialist, educator and author of sewing and pattern textbooks. Connie is also a Silverdale Chapter ASG member.
We were treated to a special day of learning. Connie was able to fit a two-day seminar into a full one day class covering all things pertaining to fashion sewing.
We started by learning the production sewing steps of construction. Then she took us through the steps of pattern drafting...pants, skirt and bodice. Then design manipulation of the patterns to achieve any design our creative minds can come up with. It was a lot of information.
Thank you Connie for your humor, enthusiasm and expertise.
A fun day was had by all.

Below are pictures of all the ladies having a great time.

It was a full house with 49 people coming from as far away as Spokane, Corvalie and Victoria, B.C.

Everyone received loads of detailed handouts.

We met "Dolly Parton" and discussed various body issues.

Lots of lecturing and demonstration.

Connie's husband Wayne manned the store.
There were books, patterns, tools, interfacing and DVDs
.

We even played "dress up" with Connie's samples to demonstrate how her line of patterns
from Butterick solve fittting issues with which we have struggled.

Local Vintage Clothing Exhibit

Bainbridge Historical Society Museum is currently having an exhibit of some of the wonderful vintage clothing owned by Louise Mills. Some of you may remember that Louise came to our annual meeting a few years back and brought a dozen garments from her extensive collection. We all enjoyed seeing and examining them and hearing about how she came to have them. Louise passed away late last year and 15 to 20 garments from her collection are on display, with commentary by Neil Vincent. There are gowns from the late 1800's through the 1990's. In addition there is a continuously running video of Louise displaying both garments from her collection and her delightful personality. The exhibit will continue for approximately 2 months. The Museum on Erickson Ave (behind Virginia Mason Clinic) is open Wednesday through Monday (closed Tuesday), 1-4pm. Requested admission is $2.50. These are the kind of garments that we don't often get to see, especially close up. If you like to sew or just see beautiful garments, don't miss this opportunity.
